Lots of fun ways to celebrate

A SERIES of community events has taken place to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

A Victorian fair was held at Drigg and Carleton Village Hall last Saturday. The Mayor and Mayoress of Copeland, Peter and Louise Tyson, joined residents at the event.

On Sunday, a celebration service took place at St Peters’ Church in Drigg.

The congregation was joined by Coun Tyson, along with the Waymark Praise Band.

Following the service, which was led by the Rev John Woolcock, the congregation gathered in the church yard for the re-dedication of the lych-gate.

A bring and share lunch was held by Drigg Family Group.

Staff say everyone enjoyed the event, from the oldest child, Flynn Purdham, to the youngest, Pippa Pyke.

At St Bridget’s School in Parton, children took part in a traditional street party in the school grounds.

The youngsters dressed in red, white and blue. A buffet lunch provided by the school canteen. The cake was made by Louise Musson the school cook.

To mark the jubilee year, the Friends of the Museum have chosen a Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee plate as their restoration project for this year.
