AN Egremont student working at a Cumbrian hotel is helping to plan the 100th anniversary of a Beatrix Potter tale written there.

Kayleigh Robertson, 25, is currently on a work placement at the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Bowness.

She is involved with planning projects to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tale of Timmy Tiptoes and the Tale of Pigling Bland in 2013, which were both written at the hotel.

The hotel was once the home of Beatrix Potter’s mother, Helen, so has strong links with the author.

Kayleigh is working as the hotel’s business development executive and will be co-ordinating events to mark the milestone.

The role sees her playing an integral part in the management team and engaging in a variety of different activities, from analysing data, to co-ordinating events. Her qualifications include a business with finance degree from Lakes College, an NVQ Level 2 in accounting and a top-up degree in business from UCLan. She has also worked as an assistant finance officer at a private school.

She said: “The work in which I am engaged at Lindeth Howe is very different to that which I have experienced in the past, but I am relishing the opportunity and the fact that I am able to contribute ideas and put my own slant on certain projects.

“The Lindeth Howe placement is an opportunity that I would recommend to any young person wishing to pursue a career in business.”

She is the latest of a line of young people who have been given an opportunity to experience business through the Business Development Programme operated by Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel.

Lindeth Howe’s hotel general manager, Alison Magee-Barker, said: “We started our successful business development programme six years ago, to grow young talent and help young people find a direction which best suits their skills.

“Kayleigh is learning all the time and enhancing her knowledge of tourism and hospitality.”
