Jane Robinson of Seascale: ‘She loved the area so much... the best sister I could ever have’

JANE Robinson, who was killed while she was out delivering homewares catalogues, would not have harmed a fly.

She had a high regard for life, especially animals and birds, and lived with her twin sister Barrie at their Seascale home.

Miss Robinson was 66. For many years she worked tirelessly for the PDSA (the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals) and later devoted her time caring for birds and was especially fond of pigeons.

Her sister said: “She was a real Seascale person and loved the area so much. She was the best sister I could ever have and as twins we were especially close. Her kindness to people extended to animals and birds.’’

A neighbour added: “You could not find two more gentle people than these two sisters.’’

The sisters campaigned against noisy fireworks that terrorised pets and wildlife and could be outspoken on environmental issues, including the cleanliness of the beach area of Seascale.

When their pet cockatiels got out they had searched the streets until 4am and sent posters around the village. They were overjoyed when the birds were retrieved from nearby Gosforth.

Jane was the twin daughter of Betty (nee Haythornthwaite) and Joe Robinson and stepdaughter of George Ogilvie. Their mother Betty had once run a small school in the village.

Miss Robinson’s funeral service will be held at St Cuthbert’s Church, Seascale on Wednesday, at 2.30pm, followed by a private interment.

Donations in her memory can be made to Knoxwood Wildlife Rescue Trust or Galemire Veterinary Hospital and sent to Eaves Funeral Service, 175 High Road, Kells, Whitehaven.

Her family has now asked to be left alone to grieve in peace.
