I’ll show you ‘normal’, says local artist Angy

AS a future queen of England, Kate Middleton is often labelled an ‘ordinary girl’.
Inspired to challenge these comments, avant-garde Cumbrian artist Angy Morton decided to set up her own fashion shoot – posing the question: What would it be like if Prince William had chosen a truly average woman as his bride-to-be?
The result saw a model take to the streets of Whitehaven for a series of cameo appearances.
Dubbed ‘The Alternative Royal Wedding’, the ‘bride’ – 21-year-old Michelle Serrechia – was first pictured leaving her council estate home before catching the bus to the church. She was then snapped eating chips on the harbour with her bridesmaids before heading off for a honeymoon in the Lakes.
All the clothes were designed by Angy, with the pictures taken by local photographer Brian Sherwen, who is Michelle’s grandfather.
“We constantly hear that Prince William is marrying an ‘ordinary girl’, but Kate Middleton isn’t exactly Miss Average, is she?’’ said Angy. “Where we are in Whitehaven is an ordinary place, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I wanted my bride to be an ‘ordinary’ girl, from a modest background and upbringing on a council estate.
“She had to be independent, free of inhibitions, and unafraid to express her own creativity and style.”
The fashion shoot featured Angy’s alternative royal wedding dress.
