Huge boost for theatre club

A THEATRE club for youngsters with additional learning needs will continue, thanks to a big cash injection.
Following a successful pilot project earlier this year, the Project Shadow theatre club has received a large grant, which will allow the group to carry on for the next three years.
The club, based at the Beggar’s Theatre in Millom, will receive £37,800 from the Northern Rock Foundation, in order to run three 10-week workshops a year for the next three years.
Jakki Moore, director and founder of Moore Arts Millom at the Beggar’s Theatre, said the funding will allow the group to develop and work towards future projects. She said: “This is a fantastic breakthrough for Moore Arts Millom.
“Funding is difficult to win in the current climate and we rely on as much funding as we can get.
“The funding means that we can now develop the group and work towards creating some fantastic projects. We hope to create partnerships with Prism Arts, in Carlisle, and Haltwhistle Film Project too. Both companies specialise in working with people with additional learning needs.”
The project is open to children of secondary school age who have additional learning needs.
Ms Moore is hoping to expand it to children of primary school age. She said the project was important for Millom youngsters with additional learning needs.
