Homes Under The Hammer crew in county

PROPERTY programme Homes Under The Hammer has been filming in Cumbria.
Presented by Martin Roberts and Lucy Alexander, the BBC daytime show in which experts uncover the tricks of the property auction trade, was filmed at Carlisle racecourse last week.
Homes from Copeland, including at Windermere Road, Whitehaven; Pica Cottages and Dent Place, Cleator Moor were sold at the auction. And many others from around the county also went under the hammer, some selling for more than the guide price.
The television programme features people who have bought property at auction and then goes back to film them as they undergo renovation, working out what they are worth before and afterwards. It is not yet known which of the properties sold will be chosen to feature on the show at a future date.
Colin West, auctioneer at Auction House Cumbria which holds the sales every two months at the racecourse, said 80 per cent of the properties sold. “We are absolutely delighted with the results, the room was full with very active and competitive bidders,” he said.
Some people travelled from as far as London and Scotland to the event which narrowly missed being cancelled as a result of the weather and travelling conditions.
“Two camera crews were at the auction,” said Mr West. “They filmed the whole auction before approaching all the winning bidders asking if they wanted to participate in the television programme and then they choose the most interesting ones.
“It is very rarely filmed outside London so it was absolutely brilliant to have them here.”
He said the programme has helped promote property auctions, which are now attended by the general public rather than just developers and builders.
