Homes plan at old fish factory

PLANS have been submitted to demolish the former fish processing factory at Hensingham and build homes and commercial accommodation on the site.

By Margaret Crosby

Outline planning approval is being sought by G & A M Lawson Ltd, of Gilgarran, the heavy plant and haulage firm who also have the nearby golf club.

The intention is to build 34 dwellings and provide some commercial development with associated landscaping and access. Around 1,520 square metres of space for business and general industrial use would be created, subject to planning consent.

Lawsons have purchased the five-acre site and would have to demolish the empty factory before work could begin. The factory premises were formerly occupied by Cumberland Cold Storage Ltd.
