PROCEEDS from the sale of a collection of poems by cousins Joyce Hurst and Jenny Martin, entitled Dandelions: Growing Up In Cumbria, which was launched at The Beacon last year, has been donated to CKDCF (Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children’s Fund).
The illustrated book sold for £4.99 a copy and, says Jenny, “comprised 17 easy-to-read poems that speak of simple humanity, love and beauty, the bedrock of our Cumbrian childhoods.’’
It was dedicated to Joyce and Jenny’s grandparents, William, a Whitehaven miner, and Emma Martin.
A cheque for £455 has been sent to the Children’s Fund.
The book authors both went to schoold in Whitehaven but Jenny now lives in Cheshire and Joyce, after a period abroad, has returned to Whitehaven to live.
