BURGLARS broke into NV Beauty Salon in Whitehaven and stole £800 worth of goods.

Break-in: Natalie O’Connor of NV Beauty examines where thieves broke in

They forced thier way into the Church Street shop sometime on Monday night or Tuesday morning and stole the till, an iPod with speakers and the staff’s tip jar.

Melanie Millar, owner of NV, said: “I’m shaken up by everything and I’m totally gutted.

“The tip jar was for my staff, it reflected their hard work and there was about £400 in one jar. It was so full we had to start another one. We normally just divide the tips up but we said this time we were going to take ourselves out for a nice afternoon tea or a trip through to Carlisle and really treat ourselves.”

Natalie O’Connor was the first staff member in the shop on Tuesday morning when she found the window open and an upturned plant pot and muddy footprints all over the salon.

The till was taken, till rolls were strewn over the floor and the tip jar was smashed open.

“It’s disgusting to think scum like that have been in my shop,” said Melanie.

NV Beauty did not trade on Tuesday morning but was up and running again by the afternoon.

On Monday most of NV Beauty’s business was done through card transactions so there was less in the till than may normally have been.

Also none of the stock was touched, leading staff to believe the thieves were only interested in cash and electrical items.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Dan Hindle at Whitehaven Police Station on 101.
