Rise in numbers of hospital superbug

THERE was an increase in the numbers of hospital superbug C Difficile at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, in July. A link was identified to Elm A, where there was one case, and Elm C, where there were two cases.

The infection prevention team increased surveillance of the area such as more spot checks, spray and glow tests and hygiene audits. Both wards were deep cleaned.
