Having a (masked) ball for a good cause

A MASQUERADE ball is to be held to raise funds for Howgill’s bereavement group.

Organisers Jacqui Ashforth and Sarah Moncrief are volunteers at the organisation and decided to hold an event where people could “act like ladies and gentlemen!’’

The ball will be held on July 14 at The Falcon Club, Egremont, and will include a disco, hot and cold buffet, raffle as well as performances from members of The Judith Jones Vocal Studio.

Volunteers have been making their masks at a workshop, run by Howgill’s Janice Murray and her arts team, this week and on June 28.

Jacqui said: “I came up with the idea of organising a masked ball after I went to a similar one for a 70th birthday. I noticed that people enjoyed looking and acting like ladies and gentlemen, dressed in clothes that make you feel beautiful and being mysterious behind a mask.

“A group of ladies have already booked tickets and are planning to arrive by limo with some of them wearing their prom and wedding gowns.

“Sarah and I chose to support Howgill’s bereavement group to highlight the work they do helping people with the grieving process.’’

All are welcome to the event. Tickets are £15 and are available from The Falcon Club; Whitehaven’s Howgill Family Centre; and Howgill Family Centre, at Birks Road, Cleator Moor.
