Have you got the burning ambition to be a firefighter?

ANYONE with a burning ambition to help their local community might be interested in a new recruitment drive.
Cumbria County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service is looking for around 40 new on-call firefighters to cover 16 stations across West Cumbria.
On-call firefighters are paid for their work. They receive a retainer of between £2,115 and £2,821 each year and get £12.88 per hour for a call-out. They can earn around £6,000 a year.
Open days will be held at Seascale (on May 21), Maryport, Silloth and Wigton fire stations.
“We have a number of open days to assist with this process which will answer any questions you may have, remove any concerns and support you with your application where possible,” said watch manager Andy Ingrams.
The firefighters will need to attend a two-hour training session each week.
They will also have to be able to get to their station in five minutes from both work and home to attend emergency calls.
Both men and women can apply for the roles but must they be fit enough to carry out their duties.
