EXPLORING the Taiwanese culture has been the aim of a series of workshops at St Mary’s School, Kells.
Pupils have been learning about Taiwanese music, creating digital animations and designing masks and hand painted dragons.
The workshops were held by Workington sixth form students in advance of a visit by a group of pupils from Taiwan to the county this week.
They will be going into different schools around Copeland and Allerdale to meet students and will also be visiting various tourist attractions including the La’al Ratty at Ravenglass.
Sarah Jardine, Year 6 teacher, said: “It’s brilliant to make the children aware of the differences between Taiwan and West Cumbria. It gives them a good foundation, before they meet the students.
“This is an established link and we are really pleased to be part of it,” she added.
Youngsters also took part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for the school and the Barnado’s children’s charity.
The children from the nursery and reception classes dressed up as super-heroes and walked for 20 minutes around the school grounds. Pupils in the nursery class then walked to the finishing line at Kells library, where they enjoyed a snack and a story time.
