Fond memories of old pub

SIR – I found Margaret Crosby’s article on the old Rest & Be Thankful pub (The Whitehaven News, February 21) very interesting.
darts team fun: The darts team of the Rest & Be Thankful pub, circa 1963, who played in the West Cumberland Darts League. In the centre is landlord Walter Wright, from left, Eileen Wright (Walter’s wife), Joan Weston (Walter’s sister), David Simpson and Liz Robinson
The pub was indeed still open in 1962 when we moved to Low Moresby to live.
I recall there was no refrigeration in the cellar.
I think a stream ran through it and the landlord soaked hessian sacks in it and draped them over the wooden barrels of Blackburn Ale – always well chilled.
The chap in the doorway wearing a cap was, I feel sure, Stan Watson from Tow Low Cottages, Low Moresby.
