Five cars in crash

A FIVE-CAR crash caused a major road to be closed in Whitehaven on Tuesday morning.
The collision happened just before 8am on the busy A595 at Hensingham. It initially involved three vehicles and the crash caused a further two vehicles to shunt into one another.
The initial crash involved a Ford Transit van, a Ford Ka and a Hyundai. The driver of the Hyundai, a 33-year-old woman from Seascale, was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital for a check-up. No one else involved required hospital treatment.
Police officers worked to clear the road and it re-opened at 8.56am.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, police officers and ambulance crews attended a two-car crash in Parkside, near Cleator Moor.
A Vauxhall Combo Epic, being driven by a 29-year-old Frizington man, and an Audi TT, being driven by a 41-year-old Frizington man, collided close to the Parkside Hotel at 5.44am. Both motorists escaped with only minor injuries.
