Two-headed school

LAMPLUGH C of E School is the first in Cumbria to have a shared headship.
Proving that two heads are better than one will be current headteacher Veronica Cresswell and the newly-appointed Anne Francis, who is a key stage 2 teacher within the school.
Lamplugh is said to be leading the way with this job-share. Co-headship has been adopted in several school across the country but Lamplugh is the first in this county.
The two women will work in partnership, with the senior head having overall responsibility for the school. Both roles are part-time.
The school’s governing body offered the job to Mrs Francis following a rigorous short listing and interview process. They said she impressed the panel made up of governors, Cumbria Education Authority and the Carlisle Diocese “with her enthusiasm, drive, knowledge, vision, energy and dedication to the school, its pupils and wider community.’’
Chair of governors, Tracy Riley, said: “This is fantastic progress for the school, already recognised by Ofsted as a very good school.
“The two heads will work in partnership to build on the school’s successes. And for the staff it also creates a better work-life balance.’’
Mrs Cresswell said: “I was delighted when the governing body appointed Anne to the post; I know we will work well together.’’
