Dedicated teacher is nominated for award

A WHITEHAVEN School teacher has been nominated for one of this year’s Golden Apple Awards for her dedication to her pupils.
Technology teacher Stephanie Lewthwaite has been put forward for the Teacher of the Year category in the CN Group Education and Learning Awards.
This year’s celebrations are in association with Britain’s Energy Coast Campus and Active Travel.
The students are at the forefront of everything Ms Lewthwaite does, according to deputy headteacher Frank Anderson, who nominated her.
He said: “As well as demanding the highest standards and quality of work, her dedication to her students is exceptional and is displayed through the quality of feedback all her students receive.
“She is an extraordinary role model who has great influence around and beyond the school.”
Ms Lewthwaite is developing a staff blackboard on the school learning platform to enable staff to share good practice.
The school also submitted a nomination in the Support Staff of the Year category. Amanda Jones, PA to both the deputy and headteacher, has supported the school with exceptional dedication and enthusiasm, Mr Anderson said.
“No job is too big or too small for her. Her willingness to go that extra mile is self evident,” he added. “Not only does she support the head and deputies but she is a direct link to the governors and her preparation and organisation are second to none.”
The Golden Apples will be held on October 4, at Rheged.
The awards celebrate the great and the good of those working and learning in Cumbria’s education sector.
The 19 range from Outstanding New Teacher and Apprentice of the Year, to Community Involvement and Innovation in the Arts.
The Golden Apples provide an opportunity to look back and reflect on the outstanding achievements in the community, nursery, school, college, university or work-based learning centre.
Nominations in these free-to-enter awards can be submitted by anyone, not only those directly involved in education and training.
Closing date for entries is July 27.
