Drugs seized in house raids

DRUGS have been seized after two houses in Distington were raided by the police.
Officers targeted two properties – one on Hinnings Road and the other on Central Avenue – and seized amphetamine, cannabis and mephadrone.
As a result, two people were arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs; a 33-year-old Egremont man and a 30-year-old Distington woman.
A third person, a 43-year-old woman from Distington, received a cannabis warning.
The raids were the latest phase in an ongoing crackdown on drugs, and also included an operation in Hensingham and a stop-check of cars in the area.
Sgt Laura Robinson, who ran this phase of the operation which combined Copeland Neighbourhood Team and the Special Constabulary, said: “This was another intelligence-led operation which was generated in response to concerns from the local community and recent information regarding controlled drugs.
“I believe that this latest phase of the operation will have disrupted the activity of those people who are involved with drugs.
“We are serious about ridding our streets of illegal substances and will continue to use all available methods to proactively target the people involved in the misuse of drugs across the Copeland area.”
