Drigg turbine faces thumbs-down

CONTROVERSIAL plans for a wind turbine on land at Moorside Farm, Drigg, have been recommended for refusal.

Members of Copeland’s planning panel will decide on May 23. They have already paid a site visit to the rural location.

The 80m turbine would “have an adverse visual and materially harmful effect on the character and appearance of the surrounding landscape,’’ councillors will hear.

Apart from 146 letters of objection, mainly from residents of Drigg and Stubble Green, opposition has come from the Lake District National Park, the parish councils of Drigg & Carleton, Seascale, Gosforth, Muncaster, Friends of the Lake District and Ravenglass Forum.

Objectors say the damage to the land outweigh any environmental benefits of the electricity generated.

Have your say

As applicants can appeal to the Government to reverse local decisions we all need to act now to get it onside, as well as councils and others, if we are going to stop these wind turbines being built.

Are you disillusioned by rising electricity prices, over dependence on the "green" dream [especially uneconomical and inefficient wind farms] and the destruction of our countryside then please add your support to get the Government to have a serious debate on this issue at

If you agree with this petition please pass this message on to persuade your fellow Councillors, members of your community and anyone else you know to sign up too. If you are really concerned about wind turbines please promote this petition by mentioning it in your community newsletter/website and in any letters written to the Editors of your local newspapers.
