‘Disgraceful cyclepath tarnishing our town’

A WHITEHAVEN resident has called for a clean-up campaign after picking up 15 bags of rubbish.

fantastic effort: Michelle Ingram with 15 bags of rubbish picked up from the C2C path

Michelle Ingram collected all the litter in just 200 yards on the Mirehouse C2C route and says “it is tarnishing the town”.

The 200 yards on the cycle route between St Gregory and St Patrick’s and Nisa, is where Michelle found the litter.

“I walk my dog on the cycle path and it’s absolutely disgraceful,” said Michelle.

“In just 200 yards I filled 15 bags of litter and there is still so much more. It isn’t just this area either, people of the town seem to be losing their pride and dumping rubbish anywhere.

“Some people will only come to Whitehaven to do the C2C and they are getting a terrible representation of the town,” said Michelle.

“We need to pull together and start taking responsibility for dropping litter. Getting litter bins would be good but the problem starts with the ones dropping it.

“There is only so much I can do and I just hope that something else can be done to improve the problem.”
