Delighted Ian saved a life and found his perfect wife

A GOOD Samaritan was hit with Cupid’s arrow after saving a child from choking to death.

big day: Ian Mayson and Andrea Hunter, with Jessica Wright, who will be their bridesmaid

Three years ago, Ian Mayson, from Moor Row, was driving between Cockermouth and Carlisle when he was flagged down and asked to help with first aid.

Jessica Wright, now aged 13, is epileptic and was having a snack of cheese in the car with her mum, Claire Dixon, when she started to choke which brought on a seizure.

Terrified Claire was flagging down passersby to help when Ian stopped.

He administered CPR to the little girl and when the ambulance turned up left his business card with Claire.

The next month, Ian brought a Christmas present for Jessica and when Claire found he was single immediately set him up with her friend, Andrea Hunter.

The couple have been together ever since and are getting married this Saturday at Irton Church.

Matchmaker Jessica will be their bridesmaid.

Ian, 40, said: “The little lass had turned blue, there wasn’t time to think I just had to act.

“It’s like fate has brought us together, if it wasn’t for that terrible day in November three years ago me and Andrea wouldn’t be where we are now.”

Andrea, 46, is originally from Sheffield and travelled around the country before ending up in West Cumbria. Ian said it was like she was always heading in his direction.

Claire said: “I’m really pleased for both of them.

“I try and not think about what could have happened to Jessica if people hadn’t stopped. It was horrible being that helpless.

“The fact it has brought two lovely people together is great, would their paths ever have crossed without Jessica?”

Ian and Andrea first met briefly at a Christmas party in 2011 but it was Andrea who asked to meet Ian again in the new year.

The couple were only together for three months when Ian proposed. “I just knew,” he said.

It was joint celebration as he popped the question on Andrea’s son Tom’s 16th birthday. She also has a 15-year-old daughter, Robyn.

The newly-weds will be honeymooning in Thailand after a reception at the Ennerdale Country House Hotel. Ian added: “Life starts at 40 and I couldn’t be more excited to be starting to starting my life with Andrea.

“This is definitely a story with two happy endings, I’m so pleased Jessica is able to come to our wedding as bridesmaid.”
