Cyclists do it for Danny’s Fund

A GROUP of cyclists has raised over £2,000 in aid of the Danny Dickinson Fund.
Five-year-old Danny, pictured, of Whitehaven, fell ill while on holiday with his family in 2009 and was diagnosed with Encephalitis Lethargic, an infection which affects the brain.
He spent two weeks in a Spanish hospital before being transferred to Newcastle General for eight months. After returning home he frequently made trips back to Newcastle.
Danny recently attended Mayfield School which his family said he “enjoyed and had settled in well, getting on with all the staff’’.
However, sadly he died on May 23.
Twelve members of the Bransty Legion Cycle Group, including Danny’s grandfather, Russell Matthews, raised the money for Danny’s fund on their ninth annual charity bike ride.
The group, which rode from Whitehaven to Scarborough in three days, wishes to thank Gary Eilbeck, of Eilbeck Motors, and Sarah Marsh, of Revival Hair Design, for their support.
Over the years, the group has raised around £12,000 for good causes such as Mayfield School, the NSPCC and German Shepherd Rescue.
