Dog kicked
A WHITEHAVEN man kicked a dog in the stomach so hard it lifted off the floor, a court has heard.
Damon Sim, 23, of Corkickle, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a Jack Russell by forcefully kicking it during a family argument.
Sim appeared at West Cumbria Courthouse last week for the offence. District judge Gerald Chalk imposed a five-week curfew order on Sim between 8pm and 6am each day. He must also pay £125 costs and £27.50 compensation to David McDonald.
Fraud charge
A CLEATOR Moor woman has been found guilty of fraud.
Danielle Burns, 28, of Birks Road, denied dishonestly making a false representation to obtain monies from an account.
However, magistrates found her guilty and ordered her to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £775 compensation and £100 costs.
Costly cigarette
DROPPING a cigarette stump on the ground at Whitehaven Market Place has landed a woman with an £80 fine.
The case against Alexis Prowse, 18, of West Croft Terrace, Lowca, was proved in absence at West Cumbria Courthouse last week. Magistrates also ordered her to pay £100 costs to Copeland Council and a £15 victim surcharge.
Speeding fine
A WHITEHAVEN man has been fined £400 for speeding.
The case against Wayne Andrew Harris, 31, of Ullswater Avenue, was proved in his absence last week.
The court heard that Harris had been driving at 57mph in the 40mph zone at Common End, Distington. He must pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Driver fined
A MOTORIST has been fined £200 for driving five miles over the speed limit at Cleator Moor.
The case against Christopher William Gormley, 28, of Cragg Road, was proved in absence. The court heard that a speed detection device recorded Gormley driving at 35mph in the 30mph zone near St Mary’s Church. He was ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
