Court round-up

Crossbow incident

A MAN is due to answer bail today (Thursday) following an alleged incident involving a crossbow.

The 47-year-old Millom man was arrested on Tuesday last week after police officers were called to an address in Lord Street. He will answer bail at Workington police station.

The man was alleged to have had a crossbow on the premises and was making threats towards himself and another person at the address.

No one was injured during the incident.

Charge denied

NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Blake Hardy of Meadow Road, Mirehouse, has denied causing grievous bodily harm to a woman.

He was committed by magistrates at West Cumbria Courthouse to Crown Court for trial. His case has been adjourned until October 11. Conditional bail was granted.

Failed to report work changes

A CLEATOR Moor man has been ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work.

Philip Kenneth Wigham, 32, of Dent Place, admitted failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions of a change in circumstances affecting his entitlement to Jobseekers’ Allowance. He also admitted failing to notify Copeland Council of a change in circumstances affecting his entitlement to council tax benefit.

Magistrates at West Cumbria Courthouse also ordered Wigham to pay £100 costs.
