Man made false benefits claims

A PARTON man falsely stated that he and his partner were not in employment, in order to claim benefits, a court has heard.

Christopher James Ferguson, 25, of Ross View, admitted four charges of making false statements knowing it would affect his entitlement to Jobseekers Allowance.

Magistrates at West Cumbria Courthouse heard that the offences took place between 2009 and 2011. He was fined £150, with £75 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Driver banned

A STRING of motoring offences has led to a Cleator Moor man being banned from driving for 12 months.

Craig Anthony Rossi, 33, of Seaview Place, admitted driving while disqualified, taking a vehicle without consent and driving with no insurance.

He appeared at West Cumbria Courthouse last week. The court heard that all of the offences took place at Bankend View, Bigrigg.

Rossi was ordered to complete a 12-week curfew order between 8pm and 6am each day. He must also pay £85 court costs.

Drugs charge

STEPHEN Lawrence Flinn, 32, of Royal Drive, Egremont, admitted possessing mephedrone and was placed on a six-week curfew by magistrates at West Cumbria Courthouse. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs.

Curfew imposed

A SEVEN-WEEK curfew has been imposed on a Whitehaven man who was abusive and threatening.

Christopher Appleby Hardy, 22, of Lonsdale Court, admitted the offence at West Cumbria Courthouse last week. He was ordered to pay £85 court costs.
