Couple sought after train incident

POLICE are on the trail of a couple who allegedly harassed a young woman train passenger in West Cumbria.

The 21-year-old victim, from Egremont, says she was targeted as she travelled on the Northern Rail service between Maryport and Workington just before 4pm on Tuesday, December 10.

PC Stuart Bingham said: “A man and woman, who had clearly been drinking alcohol, boarded the train at Maryport and sat near to the victim.”

The young woman had been listening to music on an iPod,” he said.

“Shortly after the train left Maryport the victim felt someone tugging on her earphones and noticed the iPod was missing.

“She challenged the man and woman who both denied taking the iPod and became extremely abusive and threatening.

“The woman then handed over the iPod to the victim, claiming she had found it, but continued to be threatening and abusive.”

After the incident, the couple left the train at Workington and the victim reported the incident to British Transport Police.

PC Bingham added: “We have conducted a number of inquiries and have managed to isolate the CCTV images of two people we believe have key information about the incident.

“If anyone has any other information about the incident, please get in touch.”
