Council backs leader’s £6,000 rise

COPELAND Council’s Labour leader Elaine Woodburn is to get a pay rise of more than £6,000 for carrying out a "unique" role handling nuclear issues.

Have your say

Joe, the legacy Elaine Woodburn is leaving is not one to be proud of.

Pathetic is the only word I can come up with for the people who come to the 'rescue' of our hard working council supposed leader. Please do not assume the majority of people are as gullible as yourselves, we are not. Keep your trite thoughts to yourselves re this rip-off. Pathetic, inner circle commisariat decisions being made behind closed doors without the presence of the council 'leader', and certainly not with the backing of the majority of the more sensible thinking people of this area. When are the people who have the vote and hopefully more than two brain cells going to get rid of these people? Not for a long time no doubt. For the third time, pathetic.

I dissasociate myself from the commenter who signs as 'An Observer', even though the flattery is unexpected.
Orwell, how right you were and are, even after this length of time. 'We are all equal, some more equal than others', 'four legs bad, two legs good'. The trough over-floweth to those of the untouchable inner circle and all they bestow our money upon.
Subliminal greed meted out by the untouchables-those who cannot be questioned or replaced. We collectively deserve who we get.
My conscience is clear.
Keep mindlessly voting for who you have voted mindlessly for in the past and you will get what you have always got. Sad.

This is rich considering the comments made by councillor Woodburn in the recent past when she quoted the Sellafield pay rise as "obscene". Someone of double standards it seems

Joe
Support for this obscene pay rise based on hours supposedly worked is a lame excuse I have heard many of our councillors take pleasure in vocally informing us on the hours they work. Excuse me.!!!, were not interested, it’s the service and benefits they bring were interested in, which over the last few years have been pittifully minimal Shouting about hours should not automatically justify their existence.
Dealing with Sellafield / NMP – What exactly does she do that isn’t covered by the stakeholder & regulatory groups officially set up to deal with them?
Repository – If it is to happen it will happen without a council leader, Decisions for this will be made at a far higher level than her and our MP.
Hospital – She hasn’t done anything over and above what should be quite rightly expected from a council leader. Many have done more for no reward.
Legacy & vision, yes Joe you summed it up quite nicely its all about what SHE wants us to have irregardless of what the electorate wants . Personally I believe she’s more about autocracy than democracy. Im sure I could easily find a more suitably qualified and experienced candidate to handle the issues you claim are handled more effectively on a part time basis.

Well what can I say. Page one pay rise page, page three £300 plate dinners, and then we up set families by putting their loved ones in the wrong grave. Staff loss their jobs, services are cut but we still manage to find money for this. This has to be a great example of miss management. If the pay rise is not at the request of the leader then maybe it should be used to help a local charity. I think the work which the borough council does is generally good but the management leaves a lot to be desired. It's time the structure was revisited and focus placed on service to the people and not servicing our own pockets.

Some families have not seen a pay rise for a lot longer than four years and the added increase of bills going up. This is a joke.

Joe

You state Cllr Woodburn is working hard to :

''get us a new repository to create new jobs''

No other Authorities in the Country other than Copeland, Allerdale and Cumbria CC have even come remotely near to volunteering for a repository, for the simple reason their constituents would simply not accept it. Blinkered old Copeland of course goes all out to provide a repository whits the rest of the UK sleeps easily at night. Yes, the rest of the UK demands sensible jobs, varied investment and in a million years would put up with radioactive gases seeping through there gardens for the next 20,000 years

Point being Cllr Woodburn does'nt have to try very hard to get a new repository really does she ?

Also as representative of her people, why are the cllrs, so scared of a referendum.....

we all know why dont we!!!
