Companies honoured by the UK’s safety champion

TWENTY firms from across Cumbria have been rewarded for their health and safety records.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards “recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work”.

For the first time, RoSPA is hosting presentation ceremonies at three locations; the first of which took place in Birmingham last month, followed by London (June 17) and Glasgow (September 17).

Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA’s chief executive, said: “The achievements of RoSPA award winners raise the bar for health and safety management, and many other organisations will be taking note and following their lead.”

The Copeland-based winners:

National Nuclear Laboratory – winner of the Research and Development sector

Shepley Engineers Ltd – commended in the Construction Engineering Industry sector

Redhall Nuclear – President’s Award (14 consecutive golds)

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (Sellafield) – President’s Award (13 consecutive golds)

Low Level Waste Repository – Gold (nine consecutive)

Gen2 Engineering and Technology Training Ltd – Gold

O’Connor Fencing Ltd – Gold

px Fellside CHP – Gold

Sellafield Ltd, plus its EHS&Q, Infrastructure, Major Projects Group, Pile Fuel Storage Pond, Site Remediation & Decommissioning Project, Spent Fuel Management, Technical & Engineering, and Waste & Effluent Disposition – all Gold.
