Whitehaven Probus Club
AT the meeting held on May 26, 2011, Michael Park, team leader of the Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT), gave a talk, supported by video film and photo slides, on the role of the team, with particular emphasis on their involvement in the rescue operations in Cockermouth during the catastrophic floods in November 2009.

AROUND 50 women from across Cumbria met at Hensingham Methodist Church, Whitehaven, on May 11 for a Cumbria District Methodist Women’s Network Fellowship Day.

Moor Row Jubilee Club
OUR June meeting was opened by chairman John Allonby. We had a letter from Age UK about helping to keep the libraries open. Also asking if we could knit baby hats to donate.

WITH the aid of mainly old photographs, gunpowder production, one of Cumbria’s forgotten industries, was described for members by Jan Tyler, curator of the Keswick Mining Museum and author of books about Cumbrian life.

PRESIDENT Mrs Eleanor Graham welcomed members to our June meeting. We were saddened to hear that Mrs Kath Holland has had a stroke; good wishes have been sent for a speedy recovery. Mrs Connie Watson was congratulated on winning two cups at the Whitehaven Music Festival.
