Beckermet WI
SIXTEEN members of Beckermet WI raised their glasses to respond to the toast made by Doreen Head, treasurer, with good wishes to president Mary Hilton and her husband, Jack, who celebrated their golden wedding on June 6.

AT the end of May, 15 members of Silecroft WI visited Dunningwell Hall. We were made very welcome by the owner, Sue Brown, and her husband, and we were shown into a beautiful lounge where there was a huge log fire burning.

AT the June meeting, members expressed sadness at the death of Richard “Barr” Woodall, a well-known and well-respected character in the local community, who had supported our institute and been our auditor for many years.

WE had a lovely evening at Rosehill Theatre with Alison Bradley, editor of Fusion Flowers. Her theme was Summer Solstice.

Whitehaven Rambling Club
ORGANISED by Margaret Jackson, 47 members of Whitehaven Rambling club recently spent a long weekend in Scotland based in the village of Strathpeffer. This lies just to the west of Inverness, within easy access to the countryside around the Moray Firth and also the mountains of Wester Ross and Torridon.

MOST people travel to the Caribbean for relaxation, but in the early 70s ex-chairman Tony Parker arrived on St Kitts as a volunteer secondary school teacher with enquiring eyes.

OUR meeting for June was held as usual at the Bridge Inn, Santon Bridge. Our hostess, Lesley, told us on arrival that she had had an earlier surprise telephone call – a request from our speaker for a place to land his helicopter!
