Whitehaven Rambling Club
FOR their latest long weekend away, members of Whitehaven Rambling Club travelled by coach and also by Seacat from Stranraer to Belfast, to base themselves in the little village of Ballibofey, in Donegal, in the Republic of Ireland.

Thyroid Foundation
THE monthly support group meeting of the Thyroid Foundation of North Cumbria began with a debate of the many issues and symptoms of thyroid disease, both underactive and overactive discussed. Weight, cholesterol problems and the balancing of thyroid medication was high on the agenda and one woman from Carlisle explained that her problem is in having to take thyroid tablets along with calcium and iron, which stops the absorption of her thyroid replacement medication.

Whitehaven Soroptimists
AFTER a very successful year for which we must thank the people of Whitehaven and district in helping us raise £1,750 for charities ranging from the West Cumbria Young Carers, the Tuesday Club for the Cisabled and the Copeland area Christmas lunch to UNICEF’s Born free (from HIV) and our international project for women and girls in Sierra Leone.

Moor Row Jubilee Club
ON July 14, the last meeting before the Summer recess, 38 members held their second outing to Carlisle and Asda. On their journey they stopped at the Sun Inn, Red Dial for lunch.

AT our last meeting of Calder Sew and Sews Quilt Group, the members gathered for a talk by Jenny Almond, a wonderful quilt teacher and speaker. She has been a quilter for more than 20 years.

CUMBRIA Fire and Rescue Service gave an inspiring talk. The speaker for the evening was Kevin Bethwaite of the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service assisted by Liz Johnston from the control room at Cockermouth, on community safety and awareness.
