CHEERFUL Irishman Chris Casey insists his schooling in Limerick was a disaster. Sadly his adolescence was blighted by the tragic loss of his elder brother in a traffic accident. Then his handicapped sister choked to death. His drunken, and at times violent, father was a further problem.

SOUTH-West Cumbria History and Archaeology Society’s last outing of the summer season visited the Helena Thompson museum in Workington, where members were guided around some of the oldest parts of town.

JOSIE Watson welcomed 18 members to the July meeting. John and Judy Hall from Seascale were the speakers. Their talk was entitled ‘The Land of the Long White Cloud’. It was a fascinating account of their 2007 holiday to New Zealand.
