Club smashes fundraising target

CLEATOR Moor Celtic smashed its fundraising target at an Easter fun day.

By Lucy Grosvenor

The club raised £1,200 with Saturday’s family fundraiser which will help send players to a football tournament in North Wales.

Parent and one of the organisers, Rachel McAllister, said: “This is the first year we have done this and I can’t believe how successful it has been.”

More than 100 people turned up throughout the day to get their face painted or to have a go at pole jousting. In the evening, Molly Edgar performed at the club and Rachel said: “She was so good. There was such a good atmosphere when she was performing, she even managed to get the lads from the first team up singing and dancing.”

The money raised will provide new equipment for the club and pay for the boys’ tournament next month, along with a full tracksuit.

Rachel said: “It’s great that the trip is paid for, it takes a lot of the pressure off parents.

“I can’t believe how supportive everyone in the local community has been. I thought we may only just get £500 but we have more than doubled it.

“So a massive thank-you to everyone who came out and to Kirklands Carpets for sponsoring the event.”
