Chefs shine in cook-off

YOUNG chefs have tickled the tastebuds with their creative culinary skills.
Seven pupils from St Benedict’s School took to the kitchen on Tuesday in a bid to represent their school in the county finals of the Rotary Club’s Young Chefs competition.
Amy Edwards, 14, wowed the judges to claim first prize, however there was so little to choose between Amy and runner-up Lauren Burns that it has been decided to put both girls through to the final. Emily Morton was third.
The pupils were challenged to prepare a two-course meal in under two hours costing a fiver or less. Also competing were Lauren Little, Jamie Dobson, Lucy Hinde and Kieran Rooney.
Amy’s mouth-watering winning menu consisted of lamb rumps in a red wine jus, with vegetables, followed by a fresh berry pavlova.
The competition was organised by Donald Brownrigg, of Whitehaven Rotary Club, and judged by Jane Saxon, of Moresby Hall, both of whom spoke of the high standard of competition.
Amy and Lauren will compete against the best chefs from other schools in the county finals in February.
