Cap'n Senny's pub to have licence reviewed again

One of west Cumbria's busiest pubs is to have its licence reviewed again – just two months after it was last up before councillors.

Have your say

Homer, what a load of absolute tosh you have written! I have also travelled the globe, and still do, for work. Likewise I hold down a CEO's role managing assets of over $2B in value. I've drank in pubs everywhere and I can categorically say that Whitehaven is no worse than anywhere else in the world. Last night I was drinking in Singapore, there was still a rowdy element in a couple of bars. Three weeks ago I was in bars in Germany and Belfast, guess what they were the same!! I've never felt unsafe in Whitehaven, it is no different to anywhere else. In fact as a Marra, born and bred, I'm very comfortable in Whitehaven. There are idiots all over the world but why should they spoil this for the normal 99% of people. If you don;t like our gorgeous town the answer is easy, LEAVE!!

Homer, if you hate Whitehaven so much why have anything to do with it? Try hobbie instead of trying to find excuses to slate out town as you obviously have nothing better to do! How can you say we are narrow minded when you class everyone the same?Just because there are a odd few who have a fight? to me that is very narrow minded!

As I live in whitehaven town centre noise is expected, so I got double glazing, it works a treat, Cheryl Twinn, director of the neighbouring Waverley Hotel, should update the shabby waverley and get some double grazing or at lease secondary glazing.
Sergeant Richard Farnworth needs to move with the times, most of the crime and disorder is caused because everywhere closes at 2am and people want more, sennys should have a 3am and so should the takeaways. Longer hours would reduce crime and disorder as people would drift away at differnt times once they have had enough. Whitehaven needs a nightlife to keep the economy going, the council seem to be running it into a gost town, just look at the shops, especially when you look at Allerdale - workington, carlisle etc

The way things are going pubs will be extinct as it is in a few years! So stop the worrying and sit back and have a nice cup of earl gray :)

Homer, your comments are just plain ignorance. I'm speaking from the mind of a 19 year old who goes out occasionally, but just cause i'm 19 im not to be discriminated. Like most people have said Sennys is the last place most teenagers and adults go to at the end of the night so of course there's going to be rowdiness and alot of drunk people. You should thank god that we're nothing like Manchester with people being stabbed! Just let people be, and as for the Waverly's complaints about noise, it has to be dealt with, as the only major place to stay in whitehaven its a bit of a toughie. As for moving places like Sennys to outskirts of town .. well might as well not exist, no one will walk far to go there.

Surely Mrs Twinn should be soundproofing her own hotel rather than closing down neighboring businesses. I dont think a handful of hikers doing the coast to coast having a late night is worth sacrificing a solid town centre business?

Is sixteen examples of crime and disorder a lot for a town centre pub? One and a bit a month doesnt seem that much to me. Why not arrest the county council chief exec for providing roads for people to commit speeding and other offences on?

this is just stupid when it's a friday or saturday night then there is going to be noise kinda the whole point. There are like 3 bars near waverly how is it that only captain senny's is the only one getting it's licence reviewed. plus there are always like 2-4 bouncers there and during the night there are police around. All the time i've been there i've never seen lots of trouble. Why would they want to close one of the most popular clubs in whitehaven, the council are rediculus so what if there is a bit of noise. If the council have their way there will be nothing but pound and charity shops.

You've worked in puds for 12 years? whats it like working in a pud? Get from up your own back end. You cant tar everyone with the same brush. Yeah some people are like the people you described (same in any other place including where you live!!), though, the majority are not!! There are fights in every pub/nightclub at some point.. its not the end of the world!!! And the Waverley, if they're so unhappy.. why are they still in the same location surrounded by pubs. With the money they charge they could afford to move!!

O dear blah have i hit a sore point, i dont doubt you think the sun shines out of whitehavens behind since you come from there but believe me the trouble in sennys that has led to this which i believe started when some one pinched some one elses england hat well what more can i say pathetic, and just for the record im not old in fact iv worked in puds for the last 12 years of my life and i have never ever come accross the attitude of people in whitehaven in pubs, you dont dare look at some one in case they take offence. If you want to drink into the small hours of the morning disapear off home and get stuck into your drink in the comfort of your own home instead of making everyone elses life a misery in the center of town

Homer, I think you must be confusing Whitehaven with Workington mate. Whitehaven is tame compared with Workington, which on a Saturday night is like the wild west!
