One week left to nominate best businesses

THERE is just one week left to get your nominations in for the CN Group Business Awards 2012.
The deadline to enter this year’s awards has been extended to August 10.
Working with Barclays and Invest in Cumbria, we are preparing to celebrate the best businesses in the county and their continued success despite the challenging financial climate.
The BBC’s chief operating officer, Caroline Thompson, has been confirmed as guest speaker at the ceremony at Rheged, near Penrith, in October.
Ms Thomson, who is married to Cumbrian peer Roger Liddle, spends much of her time at the family home in Abbeytown. She is also a trustee at Tullie House Museum in Carlisle.
She has been chief operating officer at the BBC since 2006 and is responsible for the corporation’s 2,400 strong staff and £800million budget.
Her previous roles have included deputy managing director of the World Service and head of corporate affairs at Channel 4.
Broadcaster Kim Inglis will host this year’s ceremony. The Wigton-based journalist began her career as a reporter and presenter with Border in Carlisle before moving on to ITV Tyne Tees, where she worked for more than 13 years, fronting the flagship 6pm news programme and other shows.
Judges will consider entries in 16 categories in the awards, organised by CN Group, publishers of The Whitehaven News.
The full list of awards sections is: Training and Development Award; Exporter of the Year; Community Involvement; Innovation and Techology Award; Environmental Awareness Award; Energy Innovation Award; Tourism and Hospitality Award; Business of the Year (small); Business of the Year (medium); Business of the Year (large); Best use of Digital and / or Social Media; Customer Service Excellence Award; Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Businessperson of the Year; Social Enterprise Award; Lifetime Contribution to Cumbria.
All shortlisted entries will receive coverage in CN Group newspapers and websites. To apply, go to www.cnbusinessawards.co.uk or call Alison Sisson on 01228 612617.
