Focus on Millom’s shops

TRADERS in Millom are being called to arms to celebrate the best of business in the town.

Millom and District Business Forum aims to hold a local traders week from July 1 to 7 to coincide with the national Independents Day.

The event will culminate with the launch of the South Copeland Scarecrow festival.

Eric Barker, enterprise coach, is leading the plans. He said: “Essentially the idea is to take events that are already happening and work around them in such a way as to build momentum and excitement in the town over a two or three-week period.

“At the same time we’ll be encouraging the retailers, cafés and other services in the town to put on promotional activities and raise their profile in conjunction with the activities that are taking place.”

Mr Barker said the week could see a series of special offers across participating shops.

Hardknott Brewery will be entering a float into the first carnival in town for more than a decade, which aims to promote businesses and the shop local week.

Mr Barker said: “This is an opportunity for the shop keepers especially to get involved and raise their profile by working collaboratively with other business people, the carnival initiative and South Copeland Tourism.”

It is hoped a summer market will take place on July 7 .
