Climbing Snowdon – the hard way
Last updated at 12:12, Thursday, 12 April 2012
A TEAM of engineers from Cleator Moor will take on the challenge of a lifetime all in the name of charity.
Cycling, climbing and canoeing their way on a route to Snowdonia, four employees from REACT Engineering, at Phoenix Court, will raise funds to support people paralysed in sporting accidents.
Phil Redfern, Rowan Matthews, Chris Weir and Mark Doughty will take on the Snowdonia Charity Challenge, on July 7, cycling 40 miles, canoeing Lake Gwynant, and climbing 3,560 feet to the top of Snowdon.
The team hopes to raise £2,000 for Regain, which works with people with tetraplegia – a condition from severe spinal cord injury.
They arranged a fundraising activity each day last week including an egg dump competition, an egg and spoon race, an egg decorating competition, and raffle.
Chris Weir, from Egremont, said: “Our efforts so far have mainly been on the fund-raising activities – we hope it will kick-start the funding pot for the charity. After that we’ll get into full-swing training, wracking up some serious miles on the bikes. We’ll have to concentrate on our canoeing skills though, as none of us have done much of it before.”
