Apprentice scheme a resounding success

EFFORTS to recruit employers and apprentices in Millom have been a resounding success.
Copeland Borough Council, Lakes College, Connexions and PHX Training have placed four young people in apprenticeships through the Copeland Apprenticeship Initiative.
The four confirmed positions are with Muncaster Castle, Millom Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Global Travel and the Haverigg Lighthouse Project. Other local organisations are also hoping to recruit apprentices in the coming weeks.
Coun Phil Greatorex, Copeland’s portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “I am delighted at the response we have had.
“This scheme is an invaluable way of getting on to the work ladder and is also an affordable way for local companies to take someone on. I hope that as many young people as possible find an appropriate apprenticeship through this initiative.”
The Copeland Apprenticeship Initiative is funded by Copeland Borough Council (through the Working Neighbourhoods Fund) and Copeland Community Fund. Together these fund 60 per cent of the apprentices’ wage, with the employer making up 40 per cent.
