Broadband contract: shortlist revealed

SOME of the biggest names in global communications are in the running to bring better broadband to Cumbria.

The Government confirmed last week that the county is to get more than £17million to improve internet connections in the county – the third largest share of a new Whitehall pot for English and Scottish regions.

Now Cumbria County Council has revealed the names of the three companies shortlisted to get superfast broadband up and running by 2015.

BT Global Solutions, Cable & Wireless and Fujitsu are the final firms in the running to land the contract to carry out the work.

The final decision on who will carry out the work will be made in December.
