Bracuk boost for Syrian children

A NUMBER of children in crisis-hit Syria can now keep warm for the winter – thanks to the generosity of Cumbrian residents.

time to wrap up: Syrian children receive their knitted clothing courtesy of Cumbrian donations through Bracuk

By Andrew Clarke

A container of aid – filled with supplies and clothes including a host of hand-knitted items – has been distributed.

The donation was arranged by Bootle Refugee Aid Cumbria UK (Bracuk), who worked with Edinburgh Aid to send and hand out the items.

Joan Capp, of Bracuk, extends thanks to all those who contributed, and is now inviting donations of summer clothing, shoes and blankets suitable for babies, children and teenagers, that will fill a second container soon to be shipped out. School stationary is also needed.

Founded in 1991, Bracuk is made up of four women from Bootle – Joan, Pat Kaye, Jean Hughes and Gina Cookson – who work voluntarily to raise funds and deliver aid.

Bracuk is also appealing for financial donations to help pay for the delivery. Donations can be made to Joan Capp, Bracuk, Hycemoorside House, Bootle Station, Millom, Cumbria LA19 5XG. Or ring 01229 718248.
