LOVE was in the air at a Whitehaven bingo hall when the club hosted its first marriage proposal.
Zoe Nicholson, a regular at Opera Bingo, took home a more valuable prize than she was hoping for when her partner, Ryan O’ Pray, made a surprise entrance during the session and asked for her hand in marriage.
Zoe, 23, of Mill Hill, Cleator Moor, was at the bingo session with her aunt and her friends to celebrate her birthday.
She said: “I didn’t know anything about it until the bingo announcer said she had a happy birthday message for me. It was my birthday the following day.
“Just after she had said that Ryan walked in.”
Plasterer Ryan, 24, bravely got down on one knee in front of 100 bingo players and presented Zoe with a diamond engagement ring, asking her to marry him. Stunned and overjoyed, Zoe immediately accepted to a round of applause and cheers from her fellow bingo players.
Mum-of-two Zoe said: “I was almost crying I couldn’t believe it. I’m really pleased.
“Ryan said he had been planning to propose on my birthday but thought it would be funny to do it at bingo. He told my cousin who thought it was a great idea.”
The couple, who have a three-year-old girl called Ellie May and a one-year-old boy called Tyler, are going to save up for a few years before they tie the knot.
Zoe extended thanks to Liam McDonald and Jenna Benn for helping to arrange the proposal.
Janet Mingins, assistant manager of Opera Bingo, said: “This is the first time we’ve had a proposal at the club and staff and customers felt privileged to be part of it.”
