The ride will start from The Central Pub in Egremont on Saturday, June 16, and will tour the 500-mile area the North West Air Ambulance covers, to raise money for the cause.

Riders can take part in the challenge in either one or two days. There will be a number of stop points around the county, including Whitehaven and Barrow.

This is the third year the challenge has a starting point in Egremont. In the past, bikers have begun the journey at Stockton-on-Tees. However, organisers wanted more people from Copeland and Allerdale to get involved and raise money for a good cause.

Whitehaven’s Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) has supported the cause for a number of years and this year will be completing the challenge in memory of the late Bill Barker.

Anne Crayston, of MAG, said: “It’s a great charity to support, especially in this rural area. We are hoping other riders will come forward and take part. It’ll be a great event.”

Riders should apply as soon as possible. There is an entrance fee of £3 per rider and pillion, who are also asked to raise a minimum of £20 sponsorship each.

The finishing point is Kirkleatham Hall, Redcar, where there is free camping.

To take part, or for more information, go to www.boundary500.co.uk and download the forms under Boundary Challenge. Forms must be clearly marked ‘Egremont’ at the top. Alternatively, ring Peter Thwaites on 017683 41355 or Anne Crayston on 07766165597.
