THE best-dressed boat competition has become a highlight of the annual Whitehaven Festival.
And this year there was a special trophy for the winner, in the form of a diamond-shaped piece of engraved crystal, in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee.
For the second year running, the winning boat was Poppy of Pin Mill, with the Anderson family being presented with the crystal diamond shaped trophy by Whitehaven Marina manager Simone Morgan and a bottle of Lanson champagne.
The boat Sealore received a runner-up prize of a bottle of Jefferson’s rum for owners Michael and Ann McAdam.
Also runners-up were the Thompson family on Charlotte who received another bottle of Jefferson’s rum. The rum was kindly donated by Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners and the champagne by Kells Development Company.
Those decorating their vessels were asked to follow a red, white and blue theme and judging was by Colin Edgar, editor of The Whitehaven News, and by the competition’s creators, former Whitehaven harbourmaster David Allan and his wife Jean.
