Art of the community

WEST Lakes Academy pupils are showcasing their best work at Egremont’s Lowes Court Gallery.

By Emily Taylor

Sculptures, paintings and photographs are on show, commanding much of the upstairs space.

The work, from pupils from Year 7 to Year 13, is a diverse collection, of a “high quality” says art teacher Cherie Illingworth.

She said the exhibition helps the academy to “have links within the community” and this display encourages the students to express their artistic talents. Some of the work goes towards the students’ exam marks and is completed to an “extremely high standard”, she added.

The gallery exhibits local artists’ work throughout the year and is keen to promote art from young people in the community.

The exhibition is open until March 29.
