THE case in which Copeland’s retiring mayor John Jackson was accused of making a racist remark is officially closed with a ‘no action’ decision.
Copeland Council had to review the case because it failed to allow enough time for an appeal against its original judgement which was that no action would be taken.
Coun Jackson was alleged to have made a racist comment while thanking staff at the White Mare, Beckermet, at the close of the mayoral charity fund raising function. He has always denied the accusation.
Yesterday, Copeland council’s chief executive Paul Walker said: “This complaint has now been fully considered in accordance with our agreed procedures.
“In this instance the complaint was considered but no further action will be taken. We have informed the complainant and the matter is now closed.”
The complainant has not been named by the council.

Should this mischief maker not be named? He or she tried to blacken the name of a well respected local councillor when there was no case to be answered. If this was a criminal law case the perp would have been named and received a punishment.
