After the floods – the search for some answers

THE painstaking process of finding the causes of last week’s devastating floods – and preventing such a crisis happening again – is under way.
Developers and turn their friends in the planning departments don't care, all they see are £££££ signs. When the problems they are warned about but choose to arrogantly ignore arise the problem is pushed elsewhere. Welcome to Copeland.
Having worked for the councils parks deparment years ago i was astounded to see whitehaven marina being closed at all times, the reason i say this is because all the surrounding hills woodhouse, hensingham, loop road, mirehouse have various becks and streams that all head in one direction-to the town centre, they run under coach road and under the market place and all surface water was released into the harbour through various outlets as people may remember seeing them, that is why the dock froze not because it was too cold but because it conatined so much fresh water, point being if it has no where to run it will backflow through mirehouse all the way to st.bees, also if the rain on the high ground cannot drain off it also will backfill, the council is fully aware off this but prioritised the harbour to the detrement of the surrounding area FACT!.

Have your say
