A COLOURFUL group of Roald Dahl characters spent the day having fun and fundraising at Lamplugh School and Montreal School.

Children and staff in Lamplugh dressed up as their favourite characters from a Roald Dahl book – including Willy Wonka, Matilda and Fantastic Mr Fox. Pupils took part in Roald Dahl themed activities throughout the day, including ‘Matilda Yoga’, a Key Stage 1 performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a sweeties and chocolate science experiment.

At Montreal School children were invited to dress up as their favourite character from one of Dahl’s many books.

They then enjoyed themed activities based on the stories throughout the day.

It was all part of the National Roald Dahl Day which was held on the British author’s 100th birthday.

All money raised at Lamplugh School was donated to the Roald Dahl Marvellous Children’s Charity which helps to make life better for seriously ill children in and around the UK.

Sarah Lopez, a teaching assistant at the school, said the event was “a day of magical magnificence enjoyed by all”.

Another local school celebrating the day was St Patrick’s School, with 243 children taking a trip to the cinema. The whole of St Patrick’s School, Cleator Moor, munched on popcorn and watched The BFG at the Gaiety Cinema.
