LOCAL singing star Cory Spedding has attacked TV talent show X Factor alleging in a Facebook rant that it is contrived and that she was set up for a fall during filming for the new series.

And she cites her previous friendship with new judge Rita Ora as a reason why she didn’t get through, even though she had been assured it would not affect her chances.

Cory, 23, who reached boot camp in the show in 2012, and has tried for Britain’s Got Talent , The Voice and Junior Eurovision , was left angry and disappointed by her latest experience on X Factor , which will be broadcast in the autumn.

As a 14-year-old, Cory landed a scholarship at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London where Rita was also a pupil but the two hadn’t seen each other for seven years. It was via the school that Cory had been approached several weeks ago to take part in the latest series.

She had already attended an open audition in Carlisle two months ago unaware Rita would be a judge.

On Facebook she tells how she was thrilled to be shortlisted for the live arena show to sing for judges, Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita and Nick Grimshaw, and was told that for her a three-audition process had been waived.

She was assured that having been at school for four years with Rita would not go against her and she would get a chance to reunite with the star.

She chose ‘ Halo ’ by Beyoncé to sing but was told instead to sing Eva Cassidy’s ‘ Songbird ’, which she had sang at her Carlisle audition, but Cory wasn’t happy with this as she feared the instrumental in the middle would look like she’d forgotten her words... a scenario that came to pass.

Cory had a long interview with the producer who focused on the Rita connection, wanting Cory to say they were inseparable at school, which they weren’t.

Cory was annoyed at having been kept hanging around so long before going on stag at 9.30pm, five hours after schedule, and put her on last.

Rita recognised her and was taken aback and Cheryl raised her arm and stopped Cory singing during the instrumental just as the song was about to climax.

Though Cory felt she’d sang her best and got a great response from the audience, there was criticism of it being the wrong song for her. Simon said the situation between her and Rita was awkward and he didn’t feel it was fair. Cory feels producers and crew knew all along she wasn’t going through but Rita later apologised and said she felt in a bad position.

Presenters Olly Murs and Caroline Flack, told her not to give up.

Cory said her Facebook post was to make everybody aware of her experience. Her post went viral before being removed yesterday.

An X Factor spokesperson denied show producers approached Cory, and said: "We did not approach Cory, she auditioned of her own accord.

"She went through the usual audition process and did not skip any stages.”
