Workington's Debenhams store has reopened.

The department store was closed all day yesterday due to a power fault.

It has opened in the last few minutes and is unable to take card payments.

The cafe is also closed.

A Debenhams spokesman said: "At around 5.30pm on Tuesday Debenhams Workington lost power due to a fault with the local electricity supply.

"The store was immediately closed, and staff were sent home.

"Staff are being kept informed of the situation, and we expect for power to be restored in time for us to open as normal today."

No other shops in the Washington Square shopping complex were affected.

An Electricity North West spokesman said the problem was caused by a fault with the store's own metering unit rather than the electricity network.

The spokesman said it was unrelated to an issue affecting the power supply to 15 customers in the town.
